
The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mrs. Mbarka Bouaida, represented the Kingdom of Morocco at the Extraordinary Ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on Thursday 21 January 2016, in Jeddah, upon the request of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in order to discuss the attacks that targeted the embassy of Saudi Arabia in Tehran and its Consulate in Mashhad.
Speaking on this occasion, Mrs. Bouaida reiterated the denunciation of the Kingdom of Morocco of the attacks, which demonstrate a behavior that stands against diplomatic rules and practices, calling for the Iranian authorities to honour its international commitments for the protection of diplomatic missions, consular posts, and the security of its staff.
Mrs. Bouaida called for a homogenous and responsible solidarity-based approach, so as to address major challenges, particularly the phenomenon of terrorism and extremism, which threaten the security and integrity of countries of the region, while stressing the need to overcome the divisions and sectarian tendencies that aggravate the situation and lead to more intolerance and violence.
In the same line, the Minister Delegate stated that the Kingdom of Morocco, which believes in peaceful coexistence between different components of the same society and between different peoples, is convinced that only the principle of good neighborliness and the respect of sovereignty of States will enable to establish efficient cooperation relations, encourage regional integration, and contribute to peace and international security.
Finally, Mrs. Bouaida reaffirmed Morocco’s hope to transcend this critical phase and ease the tensions with serenity, wisdom, and foresight, so that the Islamic nation upholds the values of its civilization, and contribute to the building of a brighter, peaceful, and prosperous future.
