HM The King, Commander of the Faithful, Chairs First Religious Lecture of Ramadan

Date : 18 06 2015

Rabat - HM King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, chaired, Thursday at the Royal Palace in Rabat, the first religious lecture of the holy month of Ramadan.

The lecture was given by minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq under the theme "Abu Al-Abbas Assabti and his doctrine in terms of solidarity and uniqueness", drawing on the verse of the holy Koran: "Verily, We did offer the trust [of reason and volition] to the heavens, and the earth, and the mountains: but they refused to bear it because they were afraid of it. Yet man took it up - for, verily, he has always been prone to be most wicked, most foolish". (Surat Al-Ahzab, verse 72)

The minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs started his lecture by providing some elements concerning the biography of Abu Al-Abbas Assabti, who is Ahmed Ben Jaafar Khazraj, born in Sebta in 524 before settling in Marrakech where he will die in 601.

The lecturer explained that the doctrine of Abu Al-Abbas regarding solidarity is based on helping students who come to Marrakech in quest of learning.

Abu Al-Abbas became famous by walking through the souks and squares to urge people to give alms according to the recommendations of the Qur'an and hadith, which he distributed to the poor. This is the doctrine of Abu Al-Abbas for solidarity: taking money from some to give it to others who are in need, he pointed out.

Parallel to this field experience, Abu Al-Abbas strove to develop his doctrine on solidarity emphasizing the Qur'anic verses that recommend charity and beneficence, he added.

However, this doctrine based on charity and solidarity towards the poor has, according to Abu El Abbas, an intrinsic link with the cardinal principle of the oneness of God, which is one of the pillars of faith in the Muslim religion.

The lecturer then tackled the five (religious, Sufi, political, social and philosophical) readings of the doctrine of Abu El Abbas.

HM the King was then greeted by Majdi Haj Ibrahim, professor of the sciences of Qur'an translation at the Islamic Faculty of Malaysia, Hadi Omar Naim, member of the Higher Islamic Council of the Islamic Affairs of Chad, Sheikh Rafi Taha Al-Rifai, Chief Mufti of Iraq and university professor in Sulaimaniyah, Muhammad Al Mamoun Fadel Mbacki, preacher and teacher of Tarika Mouridia in Senegal, and Mohamed Zine El Hadi Al Haj Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Daawa and member of the body of Ulemas in Sudan.

The Sovereign was also greeted by Mohamed Ben Mustapha Falsen, metaphysics researcher in France, Ahmad Chafaï, vice president of the Islamic Council of Niger, Ismail Ousni Oussa, President of the Higher Council of Islamic Affairs of Gabon and Thiernou drami, Chairman of the Higher Council of Islamic Affairs of Gambia.

At the end of this religious lecture, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs presented to HM the King, Commander of the Faithful, a unique copy of the Holy Qur'an, whose transcription was made by women.

This Qur'an was transcribed by the women who have benefited from the literacy program in mosques during the 2014/2015 school year.

The transcription was carried out by a contingent of 75,000 women of this program, on the basis of a word transcribed by each of these copyists, knowing that the Holy Quran contains some 77,000 words.

To pay tribute to these women, two ladies, from Sebta and Dakhla who have contributed to this transcription, presented this copy to the Sovereign.
