Copenhagen - Denmark applauds Morocco for its efforts and approach to regional issues, Danish Foreign Minister, Martin Lidegaard said on Wednesday in Copenhagen.

Speaking to MAP following talks with Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Foreign Minister Mbarka Bouaida, the Danish official expressed support for "the approach adopted by the government regarding regional issues," referring notably to Morocco’s response to the challenges relating to fighting extremism and the promoting economic development.

"We are satisfied with the quality of our bilateral relations with Morocco, a stable country in a volatile region," said the Danish official.

On the Sahara issue, Lidegaard said Denmark supports a negotiated solution within the framework of the UN.

The meeting was an opportunity highlight Morocco’s autonomy plan for the southern provinces as a serious and credible proposal to put an end to the regional dispute.

The Danish official also applauded Morocco for the ratification of the optional protocol to the convention against torture, adding that the two countries work together at the international level for the ratification of this Convention.

Lidegaard also welcomed Morocco’s initiative to the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2016.
