Date : 21 01 2015

Casablanca, Jan. 21, 2015 - Morocco’s economy is expected to grow by 4.8 pc in 2015 compared to 2.6 pc last year, High Commissioner for Planning, Ahmed Lahlimi Alami, said Wednesday in Casablanca.

This economic growth is expected to create 170,000 jobs, bringing to 9.6 pc the national unemployment rate, instead of 9.8 pc in 2014, Lahlimi pointed out at the presentation of the 2015 forecasts.

These forecasts are based on a good 2014-2015 crop year and an increase in global demand for Morocco to 4.5 pc in 2015 compared to 4.1 pc in 2014. Similarly, transfers from Moroccans living abroad are expected to increase at the same rate as 2014, that is 1.2 pc.

This year, tourism receipts are expected to increase by nearly 1 pc, while foreign direct investments are expected to grow by 10 per cent, according to HCP statistics.

Inflation is expected to reach 0.8 pc in 2015 compared to 0.4 pc in 2014, despite an expected drop in imported inflation.
