Creation of a Ministerial Action Group in support of Al Qods and Palestine

The ministerial committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in charge of the action plan for the benefit of Al Quds Asharif and Palestine announced, on Wednesday, November 12th 2014, in Rabat, the setting up of an Action Group tasked to act internationally to defend this cause according to a well-defined action plan.

 

In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mr. Salaheddine Mezouar, said, at a joint press briefing with OIC general secretary, Mr.Iyad Ammen Madani and his Jordanian and Palestinian counterparts Mr. Nasser Jouda and Mr.Riad Al Maliki, that the ministerial committee decided to set up one working group that will lead to the creation of three groups each with a specific mission as part of actions carried out internationally, mainly with the superpowers.

 

Mr. Mezouar added that this action, based on international systems of reference, will be launched next mid-December with the aim of “making our voice heard by influential powers”, and putting an end to the Israeli assaults and practices in the Palestinian territories, ensuring respect for international law and securing rights of Palestinian people.

 

He also specified that actions of this group is in complete harmony with the international law, and that the proposed measures and actions conducted internationally will favor the creation of a climate propitious for serious talks to reach the two-state solution.

 

For his part, the OIC General Secretary pointed out that the idea of creating three working groups aim to achieve a wide coverage for the action of this group with influential powers, noting that is an immediate and direct action to counteract the Israeli actions and assaults against the Palestinian territories.

 

He also estimated that the proposed action plan is dictated by the responsibility of the ministerial committee, noting that this action will be carrying clear and strong messages to the most influential world powers and to the permanent members of the Security Council and the Quartet to assume their responsibilities. He said that the Muslim world can not wait without doing anything to face these unprecedented Israeli assaults.

 

The Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that the creation of this action group carries messages to the international community to assume its responsibilities and the Palestinian people to be reassured that are not alone in the struggle against the occupation. Israel has to realize that it is facing in this conflict the Arab and Muslim world and all lovers of peace.

 

He added that this action comes just after unprecedented attacks that targeted essentially Al Qods Acharif and Al Aqsa Mosque.

 

For his part, the Jordanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Jouda, stated that members of the Security Council should be aware, more than ever, of their responsibilities vis-à-vis Palestine and Al-Quds, indicating that his country, as non-permanent member of the Security Council, continues to intensify its actions and defend the Palestinian cause in this forum.
