Date : 16 04 2014

Rabat - Morocco's agriculture and sea fisheries minister, Aziz Akhannouch, and European agriculture and rural development commissioner, Dacian Ciolos, have agreed to start this April 23 negotiations over conditions of Moroccan fruits and vegetables entry to the European market.

The session will be held during the visit to Morocco of The European Union Director General of agriculture and rural development, Dacian Ciolos, said a release of the department of agriculture and sea fisheries.

The two officials who held a phone call agreed on the need to start negotiations immediately in order to discuss solutions and re-establish balance in trade between Morocco and the European Union, as it has been negotiated in the agriculture agreement.

The Moroccan official insisted that consequences of the changes decided by the EU will be adverse for agricultural cooperation between the two partners.

On Tuesday, the EU delegate in Rabat, Rupert Joy promised that the European Commission will make sure that all Morocco's concerns regarding the entry price of Moroccan fruits and vegetables to the European market will be addressed and reiterated the EC's firm engagement in its relations with Morocco.

Moroccan authorities criticized the EU decision to change rules on Entry Price System for Fruit and Vegetables as both "astonishing and incomprehensible".
