Marrakech - Any legislative or administrative measure taken by Israel to change the character and status of the Holy City has no legal validity, said Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki Moon.

In a letter to King Mohammed VI, Chairman of Al-Quds Committee, the Secretary General of the UN noted that "the position of the United Nations regarding Jerusalem is clear: any action or legislative provision or administrative decision by the State of Israel which seeks to alter the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem has no legal validity," adding that they "are contrary to the rules of the international law, and undermine the efforts to reach a two-state solution."

His Majesty the King had sent messages to Mr. Ban Ki Moon and Pope Francis in which the Sovereign warned against any agreement with Israel that condones the policy of colonization.

The Secretary General of the UN said in his letter that he "shares the concerns of the Sovereign regarding the holy city."

"I share your concerns because any action concerning Jerusalem is felt worldwide, and it is precisely for this reason that it should remain a universal symbol of peace and hope.

Jerusalem is the melting pot of Muslim, Jewish, and Christian aspirations. It must be open and accessible to everyone," he said.
