New York - UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, expressed on Monday "gratefulness" to Morocco for its action in favor of stabilization of the Central African Republic.

In a report to the security council on Monday, the UN chief expressed gratefulness to "bilateral partners, regional and multilateral organizations, particularly the African Union, the Economic Community of central African States, the European Union, France and Morocco and to countries that supplied troops to the International stabilization mission in central Africa, for their precious work for the stabilization of the Central African Republic".

A contingent of the Moroccan Royal Armed Forces (FAR) left Morocco last december 25 for the Central African Republic on December 25 to be deployed in the UN Integrated Peace building Office (BINUCA). Moroccan authorities also said they stand ready to support the Central African Republic in its path toward peace and stability.

The UN secretary general also congratulated Morocco for accepting to "supply troops for the United National guards unit and to lead the Central African Republic unit of the peace consolidation commission.

Morocco "is the first troops supplier and the first stage of deployment (250 servicemen) started on December 31", said BAN in his report to the UN security Council's 15 member-states.
